Microsoft 365 Groups and Teams that remain inactive for 365 days will be deleted.

Starting Thursday, September 26, at 10am, UK Information Technology Services (UK ITS) will be introducing an automated expiration policy for Microsoft 365 Groups and Teams within Microsoft Teams.

What does this mean?

Any Microsoft 365 Group or Team that remains inactive for 365 days will no longer be accessible to its members. Once access is removed, there is a 30-day grace period before the group or team is permanently deleted.

How can I keep my Groups and Teams active?

Most activities associated with Groups or Teams will keep its status active. This includes, but is not limited to:

•    View, edit, download, move, share, or upload files

•    Join or edit group membership, read or write group messages, like a message

•    Visit or post in a Team channel

How will I know if my Groups or Teams will be impacted?

Email notifications will be sent 30 days, 15 days, and 1 day to the owners before the group or team access is removed.
