Epic recognizes UK ITS efforts to reduce downtime during EHR system upgrades

During recent Epic upgrades, University of Kentucky Information Technology Services (UK ITS) has minimized end user downtime.

It’s crucial to ensure that Epic, a comprehensive electronic health record system (EHR), downtimes remain minimal. Thanks to the dedication and collaboration of UK ITS teams, the reduction in downtime has also been recognized by Epic.

UK CISO Stephen Burr Participates in Cybersecurity Leadership Panel

At the 2025 Healthcare Innovation & Cybersecurity Forum in Frankfort, UK’s Chief Information Security Officer Stephen Burr shared insights during the Cybersecurity Panel, joining experts from the FBI and AWS. The discussion highlighted evolving ransomware threats, healthcare data protection, and strategies for strengthening cyber resilience across institutions. Burr’s participation underscored UK’s leadership role in advancing cybersecurity practices across Kentucky’s healthcare landscape.

The panel session was part of Bluegrass Kentucky Chapter of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (BGHIMSS) Fall Symposium, which featured other UK speakers including Dr. Bryan Rone (UKHC) and Dr. Parker Banks (UKSC).

Biles, the most decorated gymnast of all time, is a staunch mental health advocate, and her discussion left a lasting impression on University of Kentucky Information Technology Services (UK ITS) team members.

King presents at Sister Keeper Career Session at Bryan Station Middle

Rosalynn King delivered an inspiring message during the recent Sister Keeper Career Session at Bryan Station Middle School. Centered around the theme “YOU ARE UNSTOPPABLE!”, the session empowered students to embrace their potential and pursue their goals fearlessly. Joining Rosalynn was a former FCPS student, now a college freshman majoring in computer science engineering, who shared their journey and encouraged students to envision a future in STEM. A heartfelt thank you to Rosalynn for her continued commitment to uplifting and mentoring the next generation.

Bonnet and Hurst Share Insights at 2025 Epic XGM Conference

Beth Bonnet and Todd Hurst presented at the 2025 Epic XGM (eXpert Group Meeting) conference in Verona, Wisconsin, sharing their insights on healthcare technology and process optimization. Their session was part of Epic’s annual gathering that brings together informaticists, analysts, clinicians, and healthcare leaders to explore innovative uses of the Epic system.

Campbell, McClure, and Wilson Represent UK ITS at Microsoft Build 2025

Tony Campbell, Nick McClure, and Josh Wilson represented UK ITS at this year’s Microsoft Build conference in Seattle. With a fun retro theme that brought back 8-bit vibes and nostalgic tech references, the event was packed with forward-looking content. Highlights included sessions on AI integration in enterprise environments, advancements in cloud development, and the future of Microsoft Copilot. The team came back energized with insights to help shape ITS strategy moving forward.

Anders and Wagoner Present at Homeland Security’s Blue Team Summit

Austin Anders and Owen Wagoner took the stage at the Kentucky Office of Homeland Security’s Blue Team Summit on May 20, to share UK’s journey to email security excellence. Their presentation, “UK’s Road to DMARC Enforcement … and Securing All the Email Things,” spotlighted ITS’ multi-year effort to protect university domains. They walked attendees through the three-year process to implement a DMARC policy that actively rejects spoofed emails—and celebrated the team's success in consistently maintaining a ~99% DMARC pass rate across UK domains.
