ITS Division: Enterprise Applications

Service Area: Analytics

What services do you and your teammates provide to campus?

My team, ITS Analytics, in collaboration with the Provost’s Institutional Research teams are all about the University’s data. We make the data accessible to the University community so that it is easier to understand and use. Our work starts with the developers providing data models. For example, I am a developer on the Student Success team within Advanced Analytics and have worked with Enrollment, Degrees, Retention and Graduation Rate, Transfer Students, and Degree Audit data models.

Next, analysts and data scientists produce interactive visualizations and dashboards using Tableau. The data scientists also analyze the data and use it to look at past trends to support the University’s decision making.

We also provide required external reporting to the Council of Post-Secondary Education (CPE), Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), various surveys like US News and World Reports, and open records requests.

What campus units do you collaborate with?

Besides collaborating with the Institutional Research team, I work with other Enterprise Applications team members, as well as folks from Academic Excellence and Enrollment Management.

What are your workplace values?

My goal is to always produce the best work possible in the most reasonable amount of time. I strive to be as helpful as I can to my fellow team members and anyone else in the University community that contacts me.

What is your favorite part of working in ITS and UK?

I am a member of an awesome team. I am so proud of the amazing deliverables our team has produced, knowing how helpful it is to the University, the students, or internally for the team. I'm glad that in some cases I have been a contributor. There are so many smart and creative people in my building. It's fun to interact and collaborate with them and I'm constantly learning new things. In fact, it's about all of the University community that I interact with-- how they care about the work they do and how it makes a difference for the students.
