Service Area: IT Security

What services do you and your teammates provide to campus?

We are tasked with protecting integrity, confidentiality, and availability of the University's data. This is most often seen in protecting the University from threats, including Trojans and Worms, Wannacry or ransomware, Denial of Service, and Phishing campaigns. We also educate the users in Security matters. There will never be a perfect technological solution but training the end user can solve a lot of problems.

What campus units do you collaborate with?

Security touches all across the University, we work with units from all parts of campus. We work with external units including various law enforcement groups, the FBI Cybersecurity unit, Department of Homeland Security, and work with other Universities security teams.

What are your workplace values?

At any time something can happen in an enterprise the size of UK. We try to provide a feeling of confidence and professionalism when dealing with the emergencies. To do this we have to be honest, trustworthy, and discreet.

What is your favorite part of working in ITS and UK?

The feeling that I am leaving the University better than when I started and the teamwork with the people. I've had the privilege through the years of collaborating with some very talented individuals and having the opportunity to help create a security program that the University can be proud of.
