UK linkblue account deprovisioning What happens to your account after UK?
What is account deprovisioning?
Account deprovisioning is the process of removing a user's access to an organization's systems and data when they leave or reach an inactive status. This includes revoking their credentials, such as email accounts, system logins, and access to various applications and resources.
This process is essential for many reasons, including:
- Enhanced Cybersecurity: By removing access for those who no longer need it, we are protecting your UK's data and systems from unauthorized access and potential security breaches. Account deprovisioning also prevents orphaned accounts, or accounts are accounts that are no longer associated with an active user but still exist in the system. Deprovisioning helps identify and remove these accounts, reducing the risk of cybersecurity vulnerabilities.
- Regulatory Compliance: UK and UK HealthCare must meet regulations that require us to manage user access. Account deprovisioning helps ensure compliance with these regulations.
- Efficient Resource Management: Deprovisioning accounts frees up licenses, storage, and other resources that were previously allocated to inactive accounts, leading to cost savings and better resource utilization. It also ensures we are meeting the requirements of our enterprise license agreements.
- Organizational Efficiency: Proper account deprovisioning ensures that your our account directory is up-to-date and accurate, helping maintain an organized and efficient system for managing user accounts and access rights.

How does account deprovisioning work at UK? Will I be notified?
At the time of leaving the University (e.g., graduation, separation) or meeting criteria to be inactive (e.g., retirees who have not used their account for over a year), you will receive email notifications to your UK email informing you of the date your linkblue account will be deprovisioned.
What if I come back to UK?
If you enroll or become employed at UK after your account has been deprovisioned, your linkblue will be reactivated. However, none of your previous files will be available.
If you enroll or become employed at UK before your account has been deprovisioned, you will retain your linkblue account and files. Note: Your account may experience changes in available resources when changing roles at the University of Kentucky. For example, if you were a student and return as an employee, you will lose access to the student services tab in myUK.
