Epic User Group Meeting (UGM) 2024
"The Very Hungry Nurse Manager: A Phased Approach to Thrive Training" by Gillian Puscas (IT Training Director) and Jessica Collins (Chief Nursing Information Officer). This presentation showcased a training method that led to a 75% increase in efficiency dashboard views and a 4% rise in best practice advisories
"Getting to Happily Ever After: Effective Prioritization Strategy Implementation" by Roshan Hussain (Chief Data Officer), Jennifer Rose (Senior Associate Vice President for Chandler Expansion & Performance Improvement), and Chris Burton (Business Intelligence Director). This presentation highlighted a strategy that boosted on-time project completion from 50% to over 93% and reduced ticket backlogs by six-fold.
EDUCAUSE Leadership Series
Stephen Burr was a panelist for the session "Creating a Sustainable Higher Education Information Security Program". This session focused on building and maturing information security programs to navigate constant change and evolving threats in higher education.
EDUCAUSE Annual Conference
Assistant Director of Strategic Communications and Engagement Marci Adams and Project Manager, Cybersecurity Paul London hosted a poster session during the conference that explained how UK ITS’s Community of Practice group can serve as a model for decentralized IT departments at colleges and universities. It was the first time Adams and London presented during EDUCAUSE.
Peggy Akridge, IT Vendor Management, presented a poster and hosted a Braindate session to further discuss negotiations with vendors. Akridge, and colleague Emily Perry from University of Arizona, hosted the sessions. READ MORE
Enterprise Cybersecurity Presents to KWLEN
The Enterprise Cybersecurity team had the opportunity to engage with the Kentucky Women's Law Enforcement Network (KWLEN) on Thursday, July 18. The presentation, with attendees from across the state both in person and on Zoom, aimed to shed light on the team's roles and responsibilities, cybersecurity threats, risks and provided overall guidance and tips. The speakers for the event included Taha Al-jumaily, Jennifer Edwards, Michael Sheron, and student employee Jacob Alteri. KWLEN is an organization committed to fostering mentorship and professional growth for women in the field of law enforcement.
CHIME Fall Forum
Roshan Hussain, former Chief Data Officer leading the Performance Analytics Center of Excellence (PACE) team, presented at the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) Fall Forum in San Diego on November 6. Roshan's session entitled "Modernized EDW: On-Prem to Cloud Enablement of Enterprise Analytics" discussed UKHC's migration journey from a legacy, on-prem data warehouse to an Azure Databricks lakehouse.

Members of the Research Computing Infrastructure (RCI) team attended SC24 (Supercomputing 2024). Over 18,500 attendees attended this year’s event in Atlanta. The conference highlighted advancements in liquid cooling technology to manage high chip power consumption and explored hybrid quantum-classical systems and their integration challenges in a dedicated "Quantum Alley." Attendees had the opportunity to participate in keynote sessions, breakout discussions, hands-on training, and networking events, all designed to help organizations harness the power of their information to drive business transformation.
College Business Management Institute (CBMI)
UK ITS employees made significant contributions at the College Business Management Institute (CBMI). Stephen Burr, ACIO - Enterprise CISO, highlighted current challenges and best practices in cybersecurity. Michael P. Sheron, IT Policy & Data Privacy Analyst, shared his expertise on data privacy and protection, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding sensitive information in academic institutions. Additionally, several ITS employees attended the conference and engaged in various sessions to strengthen their knowledge and bring back innovative solutions to enhance our university's technology landscape.
Kentucky Salesforce Innovations Day
Emily Brenzel and Mary Kathryn Starkey presented with campus partners from Smart Campus, IRADS, and PR/Marketing on the technical infrastructure and marketing efforts surrounding UK Online at the Kentucky Salesforce Innovations Day. Salesforce Kentucky Innovations Day brought together professionals from state and local government agencies and higher education to discuss best practices and exciting new efforts with Salesforce's various platforms.
