ITS Division: Research Computing Infrastructure

Service Area: Research Enablement & Outreach

Describe what you do at ITS in one sentence.

My duties range from managing and supporting research computing infrastructure, primarily data storage, to building software and conducting research for grant-funded projects.

Name something about the work you or your team does that you are most proud of.

We, the members of ITS Research Computing Infrastructure and CCS (Center for Computational Sciences), are a very small group that supports almost all the research computing needs for the whole academic side of the university. As if that were not enough, many of us, including myself, are also participants of research projects, effectively being users of the same infrastructure we support. The productivity, flexibility, and versatility of skills among the people of my team is quite astonishing.

I am also proud of our group's ability to work together. We all have different strengths and weaknesses as well as differing opinions in some cases, but we have a lot of respect for each other.

What is something you enjoy doing outside of work?

Too many things! I actually enjoy cooking, gardening, and crafts. Needless to say, because of my background as well as my family members', I still feel very involved in the worlds of classical music and, more recently, ballet. I also enjoy reading though it is hard to find time.

Best advice you ever received?

The best advice I ever recieved is "Being ambitious is good. Being realistic is good. Aim for the sweet spot in between."
