New Scantron service changes beginning in Fall 2025
To simplify and modernize academic testing services across campus, University of Kentucky Information Technology Services (UK ITS) has implemented changes to Scantron Services.
UK faculty and staff should be aware that the Scantron location, hours and processing procedures have changed and are effective immediately.
New location and hours
Scantron exam processing has moved from McVey Hall to 124 Peterson Service Building.
Scantron exam processing will be available from 9am until 1pm, Monday through Friday.
New scanning process
Before dropping off Scantron exams, faculty must sign into their linkblue and to submit a request via ServiceNow: https://go.uky.edu/AVServices
This new step helps ensure accurate tracking and more efficient processing of exam materials.
Be sure to complete all fields in the ServiceNow form.
- Fill out all the required contact information fields.
- Under “Type of Support,” scroll down and select Scantron Support.
- Under the Additional Information section, list the number of sheets and any other pertinent information regarding your request. The final data file results will be sent to the requester’s email address.
Scantron processing time
Exams will be graded within three business days. Faculty should plan accordingly when scheduling exams.
Alternative testing options
Departments and instructors are strongly encouraged to explore alternative tools that offer greater flexibility, faster feedback and integration with digital platforms. Several options are already available across campus.
Fully supported options
The following testing methods are fully supported by UK.
- Canvas. Integrated directly into the Canvas LMS and supported by UK’s Canvas support team.
- Yuja Quizzing. Embedded quizzing within Yuja lecture capture and content. Supported by the Yuja support team.
- ProctorU. A flexible, online proctoring solution for exams, widely used for remote learners.
Electronic & Paper-Based Testing Alternatives
- Scantron TestFlex. This cloud-based solution uses standard printers and scanners to print and grade tests. Grades can be uploaded directly to Canvas. Departments must arrange contracts individually; no central support is available.
- Exam Soft. A secure digital testing solution. Departments must arrange contracts.
- EchoExam. A computer-based testing platform with no central university support.
- EchoPoll. (formerly TurningPoint/PointSolutions). A polling and quizzing option used by many instructors. Departments must arrange contracts.
- Gradescope. Currently used in Arts & Sciences. A grading platform used for assigning, uploading, organizing and grading student work.
- Respondus. A lockdown browser that prevents students from using the internet during online exams.
UK ITS understands that these new changes may come as a sudden shift for faculty. We appreciate your flexibility during this transition and are here to answer any questions. Contact us at Itsaboutyou@uky.edu or call 859-218-4357 (HELP).
