Knowing what can be recycled at the University of Kentucky can be confusing. That’s because recycling rules are different everywhere.

To kick off season 2 of TechKnow, UK Information Technology Services (UK ITS) interviewed Ryan Lark, a zero-waste specialist with UK Recycling.

UK Recycling’s Waste Wizard website takes the guesswork out of what can be recycled and what needs to be thrown in the trash. Type in any item in the Waste Wizard’s search bar and see where it should go.

If you think you know if an item is or isn’t recyclable, check Waste Wizard first as UK is able to recycle more than the City of Lexington.

Here are some items that can be recycled at UK:

  • Aluminum foil
  • Coffee cups
  • Envelopes (with plastic windows)
  • Yard signs (Fill out special request form: Request Recycling Service)
  • Pizza box (greasy)
  • Plastic cups
