ITS Division: Networking & Infrastructure

Service Area: Infrastructure Operations

What services do you and your teammates provide to campus?

My team provides fiber infrastructure across campus—a lot of this is the cables behind the wall which you may not see, but they're essential for getting phones and computers hooked up to the network. We can't run cables between the buildings on campus, so instead we run fiber underground, and that keeps all the buildings running. You'll see our crew crawling into manholes to install and maintain these fibers.

We are the first point of contact for voice and data incidents. If a phone doesn't have a dial tone or a PC can't get online, we help out.

What campus units do you collaborate with?

Our services affect everybody on the main campus and in UK HealthCare.

What are your workplace values?

Integrity, communication, and follow up. Do what you say you're going to do.

What is your favorite part of working in ITS and UK?

I work with a very innovative group of people, and we're constantly trying to make a difference at the University. I appreciate the dedication I see from this team, including outdoor work in frigid temperatures.
