On Friday, December 3, audience members gathered in Worsham Cinema in the Gatton Student Center to watch “Burning in Trial”, a film by Media Depot student worker Matt Dunlap. The film was written and directed by Dunlap with the help of fellow Media Depot students and equipment.

Kevin Reifert, Technical Support Specialist in Information Technology Services (ITS) and Media Depot manager attended the premier in support. “It was amazing, it raised the bar on what a student film can be. The best production the Media Depot has been a part of yet!”

The 27-minute film is a story about two people stuck in purgatory, which was filmed over 4 days in a remote cabin. After shooting and sound editing, Dunlap then worked to edit the footage for the next five months. The project was the largest he has produced to date. The film premiere was attended by UK students and employees, family, friends, and more.

Dunlap looks back on the premier with pride. "The whole experience was surreal, having everyone come out and support this project. I am so thankful to everyone who helped out with the film.”

The Media Depot, located in the basement of W.T. Young Library, is a specialized lab for UK students with multimedia equipment and software. Students looking for assistance with multimedia coursework or wanting to learn more about video or audio editing can use the space for a variety of projects. More information can be found at www.uky.edu/its/mediadepot. You can also view the “Burning in Trial” trailer on YouTube.
