University of Kentucky ITS partners with UK College of Design to equip newly renovated Gray Building with latest network technology
College of Design students attended classes for the first time in the newly renovated Gray Design Building in March. In what used to be the Reynolds building, the adapted reuse renovation included several technology installations and upgrades, which provided the opportunity for collaboration between the University of Kentucky Information Technology Services (UK ITS) and the College of Design IT teams.
UK ITS installed wireless access points and a robust network infrastructure throughout the Gray Design Building to ensure that every corner of the building has reliable wireless internet and network access. In addition to providing reliable Wi-Fi, the infrastructure creates an innovative environment where smart classrooms and smart devices can thrive.
College of Design’s Director of Technology and Facilities Joe Brewer said the partnership with UK ITS has been instrumental in transforming the building into a hub of innovation and connectivity.
“Collaborating with UK ITS has been nothing short of transformative for the College of Design. Their expertise not only expedited the setup of our new building but also significantly enhanced our technological capabilities,” Brewer said.
For the College of Design, the integration of advanced IT solutions goes beyond providing internet access—it empowers students and professors with creative tools that help foster and implement new ideas. Whether it’s 3D modeling software, virtual reality, interactive art installations or cloud computing, seamless network connectivity ensures access to these innovative tools.
“This partnership has been a true force multiplier, allowing us to focus on our core mission: educating the next generation of visionary designers,” Brewer said. “We're now better equipped than ever to provide a cutting-edge educational experience, thanks to the foundational support and innovative solutions provided by UK ITS.”
