UK Information Technology Services (ITS) would like to inform students about common job scams circling the internet. In today's market, working from home has become an attractive concept. Unfortunately, hackers are also taking advantage of this trend, resulting in a surge of employment frauds of people seeking your financial or personal information. Here are some of the most common types of career scams and how to spot them.    1.) Reshipping Scams  What they are: 

Nelnet loan service data breach: What you should know

A student loan servicing technology, Nelnet Servicing, reported a data breach exposing personal information of students with loans from Oklahoma Student Loan Authority (OSLA) and EdFinancial. While this breach is not involved with any University of Kentucky systems, UK Information Technology Services (UK ITS) would like to make students aware of the potential implications of this breach.  What happened?

CISA encourages users and administrators to review the Apple security updates page for the following products and apply the necessary updates as soon as possible:

Microsoft Releases September 2022 Security Updates

Microsoft has released updates to address multiple vulnerabilities in Microsoft software. An attacker can exploit some of these vulnerabilities to take control of an affected system. CISA encourages users and administrators to review Microsoft’s September 2022 Security Update Guide and Deployment Information and apply the necessary updates.

Apple Releases Security Updates for Multiple Products

Apple has released security updates to address a vulnerability (CVE-2022-32893) in iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air, iPad mini 2, iPad mini 3, and iPod touch (6th generation). Exploitation of this vulnerability could allow an attacker to take control of affected device. CISA encourages users and administrators to review Apple’s advisory HT213428 and apply necessary updates.

Apple Releases Security Updates for Safari

This week, Apple released critical software updates for Safari which fix a security flaw that exists in the browser across iPhone, iPad, and Mac platforms. The security flaw, according to Apple, could allow bad actors to "process maliciously crafted web content" that may lead to "arbitrary code execution." An operating system fix has been implemented. It is a platform-wide fix is for a vulnerability in Safari's Webkit engine that Apple believes may have been "actively exploited".
