ITS has had a busy summer so far supporting student onboarding and outreach on campus.  Through Transformative Learning’s Summer Kick Off event, Big Blue Nation Orientation, and early iPad distribution, ITS was able to make connections with to an abundance of incoming students.

Transformative Learning’s Summer Kick Off event, which consisted of Summer Discovery Program and Engineering Smart Start, allowed incoming students to spend the summer on campus and take two classes to help them acclimate to college life. The Strategic Engagement & Planning team and the Student Media Depot tabled during the program’s resource fair on June 29 to promote ITS resources available to the students while they are at UK.

Big Blue Nation Orientation, formerly known as See Blue U Orientation, is the freshman and transfer student welcome event where incoming students register for classes and learn about all that UK has in store for them. ITS tabled throughout the orientations from June 28 – July 16 during the campus resource fair. There, the Strategic Engagement & Planning team were able to answer any questions the students and their families may have and let them know where they can go to get more help.

In addition to the upcoming fall semester iPad distribution during K Week, the Smart Campus team held early iPad distributions on July 6 and July 16, allowing incoming freshmen who were already registered (e.g., Merit Weekend attendees) to get their iPads early. The next round of iPad distribution will occur from August 16 – 22.

ITS spoke with 615 students and parents at the tabling events and distributed 336 iPads at the combined summer events. ITS looks forward to continuing to support students through future events.
