University-wide Navigation

When it comes to technology, we don’t have to look far to see how much we rely on it every day. Our smart phones, vehicles and office equipment are all integrated with technology. Beyond that, technology has helped enhance higher education, health care, small businesses and the economy.

January 6th marks National Technology Day, which recognizes advancements in technology and looks to the future of technology. University of Kentucky Information Technology Services (UK ITS) Associate Chief Information Officer and Enterprise Chief Technology Officer, Adam Recktenwald, recently spoke with UKNow about potential technology trends this year.

Without a doubt, absent advancements in technology, our daily lives would look much different, according to Recktenwald.

“Advancements in technology have revolutionized the way we connect, work, play, learn and navigate the world,” Recktenwald said. “When’s the last time you used a paper map to navigate a new city, cracked open an encyclopedia to lookup who won that best picture Oscar in 2015 or didn’t look at your phone to see if it’s going to rain?”

Recktenwald says these countless types of small and large enhancements simplify tasks and improve our daily lives.

Keeping up with technology may seem impossible, but Recktenwald has a few suggestions.

“The tech world is a big place — no matter if your interests are specific or if you’re just curious — a good place to start is by visiting a few of my favorite sites: wired.com, techcrunch.com and theverge.com.”

As technology continues to advance, it’s also important to safeguard your information across all your devices and practice good cybersecurity habits.
