UK Attending 2021 Supercomputing Conference

This year, UK employees from ITS Research Computing Infrastructure (RCI) and the Center for Computational Sciences (CCS) will be attending the 2021 Supercomputing Conference from November 14 – 19. Since 1988, the conference has grown to host over 13,000 students, researchers, and industry professionals interested in data analytics, high-performance computing (HPC), and the latest in computing technologies. 

Research Cyberinfrastructure Architect in RCI, Bhushan Chitre recognizes the importance of the conference. “With technology changes and the complexity of high-performance computing systems, tools, and software, it is imperative that our staff maintain their skills and knowledge. The Supercomputing Conference is an important source of such education.” 

The Supercomputing Conference is very well known for its extensive Exhibit Hall with booths from all major computing companies, Government agencies and labs, and leading academic computational-oriented research institutions. In past years, RCI and CCS have partnered together to be an exhibitor at the conference, representing the bright minds at UK. 

“We get our inspiration for computing by exploring the exhibits, attending technical seminars, and discovering the latest innovations. This acquired knowledge gives us the ability to provide the best bleeding-edge technologies, software, and HPC infrastructure resources to the University of Kentucky faculty and researchers.” 

This year will be the first year that both groups attend the conference virtually, attending a robust agenda full of technical presentations, papers, workshops, tutorials, posters, and multiple Birds of a Feather sessions. Chitre adds, “Attending virtually means we get the best of both worlds. We can participate in different technical sessions and workshops easier by switching virtual rooms to save time.”
