University of Kentucky linkblue users can now create a password that never expires.

University of Kentucky Information Technology Services (UK ITS) has released a new Authentication & Password Policy to improve password security for the University community.

This policy will be applied once you change your password in the myUK portal and all cybersecurity requirements are met.

Changing your password can be done by simply logging into the new myUK portal with your linkblue.

Once logged in to the myUK portal, use the following steps to change your password.

What you need to know

  • Non-expiring password. After updating your password to meet the new requirements, you can keep it indefinitely — unless there’s a security issue.
  • Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) required. You’ll need to set up Duo Mobile before you can update your password. If you already use Duo for MFA, no additional action is needed.
  • Improved security. The new policy allows for longer more secure passwords that better protect against modern cybersecurity threats.

How to change your password in the new myUK portal

Visit the new myUK portal (myuk.uky.edu) and login with your linkblue account.

Using the search function, search for “password” and follow the requirements to change your password.

  1. Log in to the new myUK portal with your linkblue account (myuk.uky.edu).
  1. In the upper‑right corner of the portal, click the down arrow next to your name.
  1. From the drop‑down, select “My Account.”
  1. In My Account, click “Account Details.”
  1. Follow the prompts to update your password to a passphrase that meets UK’s policy.

How to reset your password

  1. Go to myuk.uky.edu/Reset and enter your linkblue. You’ll then be directed to Duo, UK’s MFA.
  1. If you haven’t already downloaded the Duo app, download it. You’ll need to verify your identity with a push verification sent through the app. Approve the push or enter the secure code.

  1. Follow the new password requirements to create a new password.

Tip: Struggling to create a long password?

If you’re having trouble coming up with a long password that’s easy to remember, consider using a passphrase — a combination of multiple words that’s longer, easier to recall and more secure than a short or complex password.

Why act now?

UK ITS encourages everyone to make the switch as soon as possible.

When you see the prompt in the myUK portal, follow the steps carefully to ensure your new password meets all security requirements.

Important note for UK HealthCare employees: Due to known issues with some healthcare systems, spaces are not recommended in passwords. Please keep this in mind when creating your new password.

This update allows for stronger and more secure passwords that help the university adhere to its cybersecurity policies.
