
UK ITS 2024 annual report celebrates innovation and collaboration and improvements across the university
University of Kentucky Information Technology Services (UK ITS) is proud to highlight 2024, a year marked by transformation and collaboration. Our teams made strides in enhancing technology resources that empower our diverse communities of students, faculty, staff, patients and researchers. As we reflect on the advancements of 2024, we celebrate the collective efforts of our teams, who are dedicated to the future of technology for the University of Kentucky.
This year’s highlights include:
- Shared Services Model Transition: UK ITS transitioned to a shared services model with UK HealthCare Information Technology, streamlining operations and enhancing IT support. This included adding a Chief Digital & Information Officer for UK HealthCare and a Deputy CIO of Enterprise Applications and Outreach.
- Enhanced Cybersecurity Measures: Our teams updated solutions, refreshed hardware and fortified security enhancements like multi-factor authentication to combat cyber threats. UK ITS also hosted the largest CyberCon to date showcasing our commitment to cybersecurity.
- Network Upgrades: Network upgrades across campus and key facilities, like Eastern State Hospital and Gray Design Building, improved connectivity and user experience for the UK community.
- Supporting Our Students: During the annual Tech Takeover event, UK ITS deployed the Student Tech Checklist, which helped address technology barriers for more than 6,000 new students at the start of the academic year.
- Cloud Services and Applications: UK ITS teams continued to enhance UK’s cloud storage and compute services which enables cutting-edge research, healthcare, academics and operations.
- Gold Star Level 10 Achievement: UK HealthCare achieved Gold Star Level 10 from Epic, proving our commitment to patient care through effective use of electronic health records.
- Supporting Our Community: Many of our employees worked together to support advanced care in new initiatives like the EmPATH unit, a new approach to urgent behavioral healthcare that has helped over 1,500 patients since its opening.
- Enterprise Data Warehouse Upgrades: UK Healthcare upgrades made to the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) will empower advances in patient care like providing data necessary to help reduce unplanned C-sections and hospital-acquired infections using AI and machine learning. Overall, UK ITS teams helped healthcare providers make informed decisions and provide better care to Kentuckians.
