UKY Film Festival receives record submissions from students across the university
On Friday, April 26, members of the Student Media Depot, in collaboration with Student Organizations and Activities - Office for Student Success, Courage Media and Media Collaboratory hosted the Spring 2024 UKY Film Festival. Forty films created and produced by UK students were entered into the festival.
The annual event, held at Worsham Theater, showcased a diverse lineup of 21 films and awarded winners in six categories — including documentaries, narratives, experimental shorts and animated works. The film festival received submissions from 21 majors across several colleges at UK.
The festival drew a crowd of 140 people including students, faculty, staff and members of the local community. The Gatton Student Center provided the venue for the screenings, and The Media Depot was available for technical support for film makers. The Film Festival also collaborated with Beecher Reuning and Doreene Malony, two faculty who added components to their courses to support students creating films to submit to the festival.
