Why students should boost their cybersecurity habits with MalwareBytes
Cyberthreats and tactics used to disseminate them are constantly evolving. From phishing to malvertising, malicious advertising that can plant malware on a device with little or no interaction with the infected webpage, the sophistication of cybercrimes continues to advance.
But there’s a great way for University of Kentucky students to combat cybercrime at no cost.
UK Information Technology Services is encouraging students to download MalwareBytes. The anti-malware software available to students that protects your personal computer against a litany of cybercrimes and threats.
The app protects against harmful software, ransomware and viruses by providing real-time detection of cyberthreats, and it’s easy to get started.
-
Go to MalwareBytes.
-
Click on the “Free Download” button on the top right side of the screen.
-
Go to your downloads folder and follow the installation instructions.
-
Enable real-time detection.
-
Schedule regular scans.
By downloading MalwareBytes, students have the option to schedule or manually run scans that find and remove malicious software.
Proactively protecting your device helps keep your personal data safe. When cybercriminals obtain your personal data, that could result in you spending time and money to undo damage.
Being familiar with cyberthreats and how to protect your personal devices not only ensures your safety, but it also helps you understand best cybersecurity practices.
