Tech Touchbase Event Held to Help Students with iPad Basics

Transformative Learning and PresU, in collaboration with the Smart Campus team, hosted a Tech Touchbase: iPad Basics event on September 9. The event focused on helping students with their Apple ID setup and configuring their UK accounts on their iPad (e.g., Outlook, Canvas, Microsoft365).

Microsoft has released updates to address multiple vulnerabilities in Microsoft software. An attacker can exploit some of these vulnerabilities to take control of an affected system. CISA encourages users and administrators to review Microsoft’s September 2022 Security Update Guide and Deployment Information and apply the necessary updates.

UK Featured as New Globus Subscriber

The University of Kentucky was featured in a blog post by Globus, a platform for research data management. Bhushan Chitre from ITS Research Computing Infrastructure was quoted in the post, giving an example of how UK utilizes Globus with Gluck Equine Research Center. University IT Strategic Plan Published

The University of Kentucky’s IT Strategic Plan is now available online. The comprehensive plan is designed to enable UK to continue in the creative use, application and provisioning of IT in support of UK’s Strategic Plan – The UK-PURPOSE.

Apple Releases Security Updates for Multiple Products

Apple has released security updates to address a vulnerability (CVE-2022-32893) in iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air, iPad mini 2, iPad mini 3, and iPod touch (6th generation). Exploitation of this vulnerability could allow an attacker to take control of affected device. CISA encourages users and administrators to review Apple’s advisory HT213428 and apply necessary updates.

Apple Releases Security Updates for Safari

This week, Apple released critical software updates for Safari which fix a security flaw that exists in the browser across iPhone, iPad, and Mac platforms. The security flaw, according to Apple, could allow bad actors to "process maliciously crafted web content" that may lead to "arbitrary code execution." An operating system fix has been implemented. It is a platform-wide fix is for a vulnerability in Safari's Webkit engine that Apple believes may have been "actively exploited".
