UK Attending 2021 Supercomputing Conference

This year, UK employees from ITS Research Computing Infrastructure (RCI) and the Center for Computational Sciences (CCS) will be attending the 2021 Supercomputing Conference from November 14 – 19. Since 1988, the conference has grown to host over 13,000 students, researchers, and industry professionals interested in data analytics, high-performance computing (HPC), and the latest in computing technologies. 

Update Your Zoom to Version 5.5 or Newer

UPDATE: Zoom will be delaying the implementation of the 9-month release window requirement for all Zoom accounts and users from Nov. 1 to a later date. Information Technology Services (ITS) would like to inform students, faculty, and staff that Zoom is requiring that all clients be updated to version 5.5+ in order to join any meeting at a later date. See below for questions you may have regarding this new policy.  How Do I Know What Version of Zoom I Have?

Mission Control Teams Up with University of Kentucky Esports

Mission Control, a software platform that enables organizations to gather and grow their communities through gaming and esports has partnered with the University of Kentucky, an innovator in collegiate esports. Together, they will  provide a comprehensive and relevant gaming and esports experience to students and the larger University of Kentucky gaming community.

Be Cautious of Impersonation Phishing Attacks

UK Information Technology Services (ITS) would like to inform all students, faculty, and staff of an increase in phishing and impersonation emails coming to UK inboxes. These emails typically come from an external email address, using the name of a UK faculty or staff. Example below:    ITS asks that you use caution when replying to any messages that appear to be from someone at UK with an external sender tag. Any official communications from a UK email account will not have the "Caution: External Sender" banner. 

UK to Present at New Campus Technology Leadership Summit

Executive Director of Institutional Research, Analytics, & Decision Support (IRADS) Todd Brann will be presenting at Campus Technology’s new Leadership Summit on Wednesday, August 11. The Leadership Summit will look at ways in which data practices can drive student success.

Game on: UK esports tournaments aim to engage female gamers

The University of Kentucky is taking steps toward evolving with the growing popularity of esports and has implemented events aimed at making competitive gaming appealing to more people.

ITS Supports Students at Summer Orientations

ITS has had a busy summer so far supporting student onboarding and outreach on campus.  Through Transformative Learning’s Summer Kick Off event, Big Blue Nation Orientation, and early iPad distribution, ITS was able to make connections with to an abundance of incoming students. 

ITS Participation in HR’s 2021 Summer Youth Program Concludes

This summer, ITS was able to participate in UK Human Resources’ 2021 Summer Youth Program. The Summer Youth Program, in its 19th year at UK, hosts ten diverse and/or disadvantaged high school students who spend six weeks on campus observing, learning and actively participating in meaningful assignments across the University. ITS received a placement with incoming freshman Helen Yang. Yang recently graduated from Lafayette High School and plans to be a Computer Science major in the fall at UK.

Gen.G and UK Announce Slate of Esports Summer Activities

Today, global esports organization Gen.G and the University of Kentucky announced a lineup of summer programming to engage esports fans, gamers and students including the ChallengHER series with two different tournaments taking place, as well as a back-to-school welcome week and a fundraiser with proceeds benefiting Kentucky Children’s Hospital.
