Higher Education Gets a Crash Course in Online Event Planning

he University of Kentucky’s 2020-21 events calendar is filled like any typical school year’s: The 42nd Annual Kentucky Women Writers Conference welcomed attendees from around the nation. The UK Alumni Association celebrated homecoming. And to commemorate Black History Month, the Martin Luther King Center held its second annual Men of Color Symposium. There was one difference, but it was a major one: All of these events were held online.

GEN.G AND UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY HOST “HOOPS AT HOME” NBA 2K TOURNAMENT

via Lex18.com Global esports organization Gen.G and the University of Kentucky announced details for the return of its popular Hoops at Home NBA 2K tournament, which will take place April 9-11. The tournament will provide the opportunity for players to participate in a distinctive NBA 2K basketball experience on twitch.tv/universityofky, connecting and unifying the community. Those wishing to participate must register by Tuesday, April 6, 2021.

ITS Enhances Cybersecurity by Implementing 2nd Phase of Automatic Account Deprovisioning

University of Kentucky Information Technology Services (ITS) would like to inform all students, faculty and staff about the next phase in the Identity Management (IdM) Account Deprovisioning process. Starting April 14, ITS will turn on automatic account deprovisioning for students who are no longer enrolled at the University of Kentucky (e.g., graduated, transferred).  

Skype for Business Going Away, Makes Way for Microsoft Teams

Following an announcement by Microsoft, Skype For Business will be going away at the University of Kentucky on July 9, 2021. UK Information Technology Services (ITS) would like prepare students, faculty, and staff for Skype for Business end of life by offering resources, training, and support for Microsoft Teams. Cornerstone Commentary to Feature Former Sega of America CEO

The University of Kentucky — along with its partner Gen.G — will continue its monthly esports speaker series, Cornerstone Commentary, with guest speaker Tom Kalinske, former CEO of Sega of America Inc. Kalinske will discuss his time with Mattel, the history of Sega vs. Nintendo and his work after the console wars of the 1990s.

UK hopes new Esports gaming lounge attracts future students

While gaming once was a solo activity, it’s grown to become a whole world of competitors, both online and in-person. University of Kentucky has invested thousands in a new Esports lounge on campus to grow with the times and hopefully attract future students. “It’s like a gaming wonderland,” Thomas Bailey said. Bailey is a junior at UK and it President of the Esports club. He says the new facility makes UK a step above other universities, especially considering the size of UK.

Providing Quality Advising With New Advising Hub 2.0

To enhance technologies for student service professionals and faculty at the University of Kentucky, the Information Technology Service's (ITS) Enterprise Applications team and Student Success have partnered to launch Advising Hub 2.0. After extensive design, beta testing, and customer feedback, 2.0 officially replaced the previous version of Advising Hub that was decommissioned Feb.1.
